Artist Profile – Ethan Friedman
The Art and Design of Ethan Friedman
Ethan Friedman, a multi-disciplinary artist from Kwa-Zulu Natal, works from his studio in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.
He excels in creating original prints, illustrations, product designs, and bespoke framing. With a deep love for nature, he enjoys hiking and rock climbing in the Western Cape.
We feature three of his favourite illustrations—whale, penguins, and fish—printed on 300gsm Satin Matt paper. More prints are available upon request.
His recent designs include the ‘easy frame,’ a user-friendly frame that allows artwork to be inserted/replaced without a need for tools, as well as a lightweight ‘camping table’ that attaches to a camping stove for convenient outdoor use.
As a young artist, Ethan is still on a journey to define his style. Inspired by his artist/designer father, Clinton Friedman. Together, they emphasise the importance of high-quality framing-the main purpose being to both protect and enhance the beauty of the artwork.
Ethan also captures nature and the charms of natural light through his fine art photography, creating images that seem to glow from within. Using minimal editing, and by waiting for the perfect light, he shoots scenes of plants, forests, and natural landscapes from a fresh and unique perspective. His striking photos celebrate the diverse shapes and colours of the Cape’s landscapes.
