GRETA MATTHEWS MCMAHON
Greta Mcmahon started her career as a set designer and props maker at the National Theatre of Namibia after receiving a diploma from the Pretoria Technicon in Theatre crafts in 1990.
She went on to study fine art at Michaelis School of Art ( UCT) where she majored in lithography. Her creative works show a deep interest in abstraction as a powerful visual language, enabling her to truly express her ideas and feelings, the meaning of which could not be captured in words.
She is intrigued by the power of creativity and the ability it has to unlock aspects of ‘The Self.’
The creative act for her is a kind of sacred ritual, which, while having a healing quality, fuses body, mind and spirit.
Greta uses various media to create and explore her themes and images. Her work emerges from a place of stillness and reflection brought about through a deep engagement with the creative process.
Greta has spent time in Ireland and The Netherlands where she held several successful solo shows. She moved to Riebeek-West three years ago- where she now has her studio.
