Art Galleries Cape Town

To us an art gallery should feel welcoming to both artists and art buyers. Art galleries in Cape Town are abundant, Cape Town has long been a place where creative people congregate and find inspiration.
Our artists are all passionate about their art-making process, and are inspired to create in this beautiful country of ours, our dear South Africa.
Hamilton Art Gallery
Hamilton Gallery is proud to showcase artists in various stages of their artistic careers, displaying works of emerging as well as fairly established artists. Most artists whose works are seen in our art showroom at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, Cape Town, are based in the Western Cape.
A few, though, live and work in other parts of South Africa such as Queenstown, Port Alfred, and Kokstad. This is what helps to create such a diverse selection in our art displays.
Hamilton Gallery aims to create a gallery space that encompasses a bit of everything- art for the serious art collector, art for interior decor, interior design , art for fun, art for kids, large-scale artworks, small-scale artworks, miniature art, as well as art in a variety of media, and art for sale over a broad price-range. We aim to offer more affordable art as well as art for the more avid art investor.
Hamilton Gallery wishes to give both Cape Town-based artists, as well as artists from other areas in South Africa, an opportunity to develop their bodies of work, to further their reach and gain exposure.
Visit us any day of the week or for the buzzing market day atmosphere- over the weekends – a good rainy day activity!
The Old Biscuit Mill
We love having the The Old Biscuit Mill weekend market vibe on Saturday and Sunday mornings, encouraging visitors to the market to come upstairs to our ‘art market’ – not so much a market as a light, bright space to browse beautiful art , take a selfie for an Instagram reel or just inspire oneself.
Our Top Three Art Galleries
There are galleries in Cape Town that double as restaurants, and galleries that offer framing services. With so many artists and galleries to choose from with a multitude of styles, some are of the more formal type – white walls , fewer- yet potent works , a quiet atmosphere. Others are more ‘bohemian’ – full of colour and mixed with handicraft/decor items, music. We’re spoilt for choice. These are just three of the many that we love to visit and revisit, any time of year.
To say Henry is an art enthusiast is an understatement. He is the ideal person to encounter when entering an art gallery and one could spend hours talking to him about his collection of artworks for sale.
This gallery stocks vibrant, colourful, upbeat works by the likes of Kyle Jardine, Richard Scott and David Kuijers and many more. It is close to many a warm and cosy coffee shop to get out of the rain.
One could spend a whole morning in this gallery with its adjoining restaurant. Each room holds a different intrigue, some with sculptures, prints, jewellery, large and small scale paintings and works of different media.
This is another welcoming art gallery that makes you not wish to leave. Mark Hiltout’s works are the ones that have stood out for us in the past. Coffee Table Books on various artists such as Cape Town artist and teacher, Jill Trappler and other accomplished artists can be found in the front section, as well as smaller home decor items and accessories.
This is stylish, contemporary, yet also homely and multi-faceted. Ebony curated has a gallery in the square in Franschhoek , which expertly mixes world-class artworks with interesting home decor items by South African ceramic artists, as well as iconic South African artworks printed onto cushions, textiles etc.
Interspersed with their high-end designer furniture, and wildlife photography taken by Marc Stanes, founder and owner of Ebony Curated are gift items, kid-friendly products and much more to browse through. Their more exclusively fine-art based gallery is just around the corner. As you walk into this gallery, you are taken into a quiet, almost ‘holy’ space of art appreciation . Many an established contemporary and well known South African artist , and artists from other African countries, have had successful sellout solo exhibitions here.
