Julian Mazery

Julian Mazery works from his studio in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa. With a background in Art History and a career in graphic design, his work reflects both classical sensibilities and a bold graphic influence. Over time, his practice has evolved through an unapologetic and sincere exploration of line, colour, form, and ultimately, composition. What emerges is a network of relationships, some precariously balanced, others overt and commanding yet all intrinsically connected.
For more than 25 years, Julian has cultivated a visual language that is organic, fluid, and distinctly his own. He prefers to work quickly and in layers, often developing several pieces simultaneously in his studio. His materials of choice, acrylic and aerosol mirror his urgency and instinct- their rapid drying time matching his energetic approach. His work ranges from intimate paper studies to expansive canvases, each one a continuation of his restless pursuit of expression.
