Mood swings
Being ‘moody’ doesn’t have to be a bad thing . It allows for one to see things through different ‘lenses’, bringing about contemplation, introspection, and the possibility of fresh perspectives. When choosing music to listen to , one can be in a certain mood for a certain type of track – either to follow one’s current mood , or to induce a desired feeling.
Thought provoking
The same goes for art. Artworks, whether overtly or not, carry a particular mood. One can be drawn to an artwork because of the mood it evokes in one, or one’s mood can make a work seem different each time one looks at it. Landscapes, both abstract and realistic
Some artworks are simply lighthearted and ‘easy on the eye’. These are cheerful , uncomplicated, yet no less valuable to one’s art collection.
Other works hold more weight – are more layered with feeling and meaning, or back stories that have an emotive effect.
At Hamilton Gallery, we have works ranging from the upbeat to the nostalgic. Some themes lead one to reflect on human frailty, the fleeting passing of time.
Others are a joyful celebration of simple pleasures – such as dancing figures, the beauty of a flower, or simply an abstract juxtaposition of colours that bring verve and zest to the space.
Each artwork can arouse in us, an emotion, or range of emotions. Art viewing can be a cathartic experience, allowing temporary relief or escape from our immediate reality, or a reminder of the collective experiences we share with our fellow ‘man’.
