Dave Robertson Contemporary South African Artist

Dave Robertson is an interesting artist, chiefly because he is interested in relationships, in other artists and in the future, about which he has an unusually optimistic view…
This results from his lengthy research; and many podcast views detailing the current developments in the world of collective consciousness and its expansion.
Dave is drawn to abstract painting and photography, but what he loves most is the combining of the two media in fresh and authentic ways. His urban themes often show a hint of magical realism which lifts them into the realm of the ‘unseen’ or ‘spiritual’. He, however, focuses mainly on abstraction and doesn’t allow himself to be bound to any one specific theme or subject matter.
His works are more experiences than pre-planned; methodical representations. He is guided creatively by intuition and this leads to art that is multi-faceted and emotionally charged.
If Robertson was to be pushed for a common thread that runs throughout his work, words such as optimism; imperfection and impermanence might come to mind. He believes, quietly yet firmly, that other dimensions exist – beyond that of which we are or have been made aware.
What one needs to know about Dave Robertson in order to feel closer to his work, is that he is acutely aware of the possible presence of other ‘worlds’ – spaces- which exist beyond the physical world as we perceive it. Dave is open to the idea of a very ‘real’ metaphysical realm and his works show this – in their depth of perspective; the richness of colour, and layer upon layer of ‘searching’; ‘finding’; becoming lost and found again.
The spiritual energy that goes into the making of his artwork seems to seep back out with a warmth and comforting message for the viewer: ‘ There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in our philosophy. ~ Hamlet.
